All cans without an easy-open end have a shelf life of two years. Cans with an easy-open end (no can opener necessary) have a shelf life of 18 months. This does not mean, however, that a can beyond this shelf life date will automatically be bad.

How do I read the date code on WHISKAS® Canned Food for Cats?
The manufacturing code appears on the bottom of each can. The first six digits provide the "best before" date, which is printed as DD/MM/YY. For instance, a code that begins with 260502 has a "best before" date of May 26, 2002.

Does WHISKAS® Canned Food for Cats need to be refrigerated after opening?
Yes. It can be refrigerated in the can or in a sealed plastic container. We recommend using the food within four days of opening. You may want to allow the food to sit at room temperature for about thirty minutes or microwave the food for a few seconds (in a microwave-safe dish - not in the can!) prior to feeding, as some cats do not care for cold food.

For instance, a code that reads 024 means the product was made in the 13th week of 2000. For a rough estimate of the month, divide the week by four. In our example, 12 / 3 = 3, so this product was manufactured in March of 2000.
