Maybe you’ve experienced the challenge of moving into a new home or neighborhood with new people. Truth be told, it’s not any easier for your new kitten. So, what are some ways to make the newest addition to your family feel welcome in his or her new home?
First, prepare a comfortable sleeping area for your kitten in an ideal location. A warm, secure place to sleep will help ease him or her into the new surroundings. You can buy cat beds and baskets at your favorite pet store. Or, you can make your own bed. It’s easy! Just take a cardboard box, make a cat-size entrance hole in it, and put a clean, comfy blanket inside.
Don’t be surprised or discouraged if your new kitten seems a bit timid upon arrival. Soon enough, he or she will be overcome by curiosity and the urge to explore. Once your kitten is settled in, let him or her walk around alone to experience the sights, sounds, and scents of their new home.
It's a good idea to keep your new kitten confined to the house for the first few weeks. During this time, you can familiarize her with all the normal household noises and activities. Introduce him or her to visitors so she becomes confident and well socialized. As for other pets, they should be introduced to the new arrival slowly and carefully.
You can also have a few simple toys waiting for your new cat when you bring her home. Cats are naturally playful and will appreciate these; they'll also help her feel relaxed and at ease in her new surroundings.
Above all, introducing a new kitten to the world is a journey that should be both exciting and challenging. With a little patience and a LOT of love, you’ll come to enjoy every minute of it.
